                         DETAIL CLAIM DATABASE

In 1993, as an essential part of the fight against insurance fraud, the Massachusetts Commissioner of Insurance mandated all companies writing automobile insurance in Massachusetts to report specific data to the AIB in order to create and maintain the Detail Claim Database (DCD). The DCD is a progressive and unique collection of key information on closed automobile claims against Massachusetts policies since 1994.  The DCD provides the industry with a broad array of information and statistics on injury, treatment, and payment patterns, claim handling activity, as well as the professional and individual liaisons involved in automobile insurance claims. Company claims staff and fraud investigators can have the experience of the entire industry available for their use when reviewing individual claims as well as information that can quickly highlight patterns of fraud and conspiracies. It is unparalleled in its level of detail and overall participation and is viewed as a cornerstone in the battle against insurance fraud in Massachusetts.

The DCD offers on-line applications that are quick and easy to use including 4 different types of claim searches, daily batch searches on both open and closed claim data, summary reports on group and industry claim statistics, as well as individual custom-designed reports. The AIB offers specialized group and individual training for all areas of the DCD.  For information on access to the DCD, please email aibsupport@aib.org.

DCD Reporting Requirements: All companies writing automobile insurance in Massachusetts must report specific claim data to the DCD. Claim data must be submitted electronically to the AIB within 45 days of the end of the month in which the claim was closed. For all details on requirements of DCD reporting including required data fields, record layout, data transmission formats, and all reporting guidelines, please contact Edith Wendell, Data Manager at ewendell@aib.org.
