Apply for AIB Membership

Eligibility:

• Insurance groups or insurance companies not part of a group, with at least one insurance company licensed to write automobile insurance in Massachusetts are eligible to apply for AIB membership.

• Insurance groups or insurance companies not part of a group, with no companies licensed to write automobile insurance in Massachusetts are eligible to apply for AIB subscribership subject to approval by the AIB Governing Committee.

Annual Fees and Assessments for Members/Subscribers:

• Annual membership fee of $4,500 for each member or subscriber.

• Fees and assessment, billed quarterly, to cover the operating expenses of the AIB and IFB and the operating expenses and claims reimbursements of the Assigned Claims Plan:

  • Annual baseline fee of $50,000 for insurers writing Private Passenger insurance.
  • Annual baseline fee of $15,000 for insurers writing Commercial insurance.
  • Annual statutory assessment based upon insurer written premium volume.

• Annual assessment equal to $0.10 per private passenger policy written to support Division of Occupational Licensure investigative activities, per M.G.L. Chapter 175, Section 113V.

To apply for AIB membership:

• Complete and sign the Acceptance of Membership Form

  • This form should be signed by an authorized official of the insurer.

  • This form indicates the company individuals primarily responsible for Massachusetts auto insurance and for paying AIB assessments.

• Review the Commercial Filing Procedures and complete the Commercial Authorization Form

  • These forms are for insurance companies licensed in Massachusetts writing commercial auto.

• Mail a check for the annual membership fee ($4,500) payable to the Automobile Insurers Bureau of Massachusetts, along with the completed forms, to:
